How a Wednesday farmers market turned into a virtual ONE STOP SHOP for the Southern Highlands

Throughout history farmers markets have played a crucial role in providing local producers a place to flourish as entrepreneurs to overcome business challenges.  Prior to the disruptions of 2020 (drought, fire and now COVID-19) The Mill Bowral opened its doors to the region every Wednesday providing a place for local producers, small businesses and the community to come together.  During this time, it was a pleasure to see local producers trialling new products and services which were readily taken up by the Highlands community.

Let’s Pivot not Pause.  Although 2020 has put a spanner in the works The Mill Bowral remains committed to facilitating connection between local farmers, business and the community.  To do this we have launched a virtual platform for the weekly famers market www.themillbowral.com.au.  Here all business great or small are invited to have an online presence to trade their products and services. The underlying principal of the virtual Mill Marketplace parallels that of traditional famers markets which have anchored communities for thousands of years.

The Mill Bowral’s goal is to create a circular social economy within the region where locals buy products made locally which supports the continuation of small business.  Working together is key to our region’s economic success.

Whether you are looking for fresh farm produce, ready-made meals, cellar door wines, a gift for someone special or self-care, The Mill Marketplace provides virtual access to locally grown produce, products and services from over 20 businesses in the Southern Highlands.

Your purchases will arrive in ONE delivery.  This means that you will not receive multiple deliveries from many service providers.  This both supports social distancing and reduces your carbon footprint while being able to support local businesses throughout the region.

Order by Monday night at 6pm for delivery on Wednesday afternoon by our dedicated driver Frank in his refrigerated truck.  Alternatively, orders can be picked-up at The Mill Bowral (210-224 Bong Bong Street, Bowral) drive-thru (follow the yellow arrows).

Products from residence vendors (Cheese Etc., Tractorless Vineyard, Ms Pho, Veggie Nook, Sweet Retreat, Zoe Georgiou, BARE BODY BEAUTY co and Carousel Lifestyle) can be delivered Wednesday’s and Friday’s during normal operating hours, or picked up at the drive-thru.

Support your local community and producers in the region by following us @themillbowral and submit your order online now at www.themillbowral.com.au
